Details
This project involved consulting with risk management authorities to understand current knowledge and best practice in maintaining and operating flood and coastal defences.
The aim was to identify how research and development could support better operations and maintenance.
Based on this consultation, the project developed a prioritised programme of scientific research to help improve how authorities carry out their flood and coastal defence responsibilities. This included identifying some quick wins, such as using remote sensing and non-destructive testing to complement the visual inspections currently used to assess flood assets.
The project started in 2000 and was completed in 2003.
