Flood defence, navigation, water quality and conservation all influence, and in turn are influenced by, the shape (morphology) of an estuary. One of the challenges in predicting changes in the morphology is choosing a suitable prediction method. This project investigated how different ways of predicting change can be used to evaluate different ways of managing estuaries.

It examined six different estuaries through:

  • collecting data
  • testing models
  • analysis

The objective was to produce a set of tools for predicting short and long-term changes in the shape of estuaries, taking account of ecological, water quality and human factors.
