This report was carried out after the implementation of the first phase of the Flood and Water Management Act 2010 and had three main objectives to:

  • examine the impact of changes relating to the process of assigning risk to large raised reservoirs
  • assess the number of small raised reservoirs (SRR) in England and the risk they pose in order to inform phase 2 of the Reservoir Safety Regulations
  • review existing risk methodology, including looking at how the probability of failure is assessed, risk thresholds and the potential to exclude certain types of reservoir

The overall objective of the project was to provide evidence to inform decisions about whether to implement further aspects of the Flood and Water Management Act 2010, particularly those relating to Small Raised Reservoirs.

The goal of the project was to provide better information on small raised reservoirs. The purpose of this information is to help make better decisions, when applying the Flood and Water Management Act 2010.

This project was started in 2016 and completed in 2019, and cost £190,345.
