Details

This project developed improved ways of assessing flood risk to help the Environment Agency and Defra understand more about how flood defences, and investment into ways of managing flood, change the risk of flooding. These methods are particularly focused on:

  • improving understanding of how flooding might be distributed across a particular area
  • how likely flooding is to happen
  • the potential consequences of flooding

This approach combines the sources of risk (water levels and waves) with the ways in which defences might perform under pressure. It also looks into the people and properties at risk to provide an integrated assessment of risk.

This project started in 2001 and was completed in 2004.
