This guide from the Construction Industry Research and Information Association (CIRIA) highlights approaches for communication and engagement for local flood management. The Environment Agency contributed to this guide through case studies and experience of communicating flood risk.

Local Lead Flood Authorities (LLFAs) are responsible for managing local flood risk. This includes risk from:

  • surface runoff
  • groundwater
  • ordinary watercourses

When producing this guide between 2011 and 2015, CIRIA brought together experience and ideas from practitioners across the flood and coastal erosion risk management industry.

The guide shares tried and tested good practice. It supports:

  • communication teams
  • flood risk managers
  • drainage engineers and planners in LLFAs
  • local councils
  • water companies

It’ll also help communication and engagement with the public on local flood risk management.
