Details

This project aimed to develop practical guidance on sustainable flood and coastal management for policy makers and practitioners.

The emphasis in the ‘Making Space for Water’ strategy is on managing risks, and making sure activity is in line with the government’s sustainable development strategy. This provides an opportunity for more sustainable ways of managing flood and erosion risk in England and Wales. This project developed a set of principles and guidance to help policy makers and practitioners make better decisions that deliver the greatest environmental, social and economic benefits.

This project ran from 2003 to 2005 at a cost of £200,000.
