Digital Sector Economic Estimates: Gross Value Added (GVA)

This series brings together the most up to date Digital Sector Gross Value Added (GVA) datasets.

About

This page contains estimates of Digital Sector GVA, providing a measure of the contribution made by the Digital Sector and its subsectors to the UK economy.

Included estimates:

DSIT currently plan to release three separate series providing estimates of:

  • annual GVA, based on data from ONS including balanced GVA estimates from the National Accounts. This is our most robust method of estimating GVA and has been badged as accredited official statistics.
  • monthly GVA (and the associated annual estimates based on monthly GVA), based on data from ONS including monthly GDP indexes. This indicator of GVA is less robust than our annual series, but more timely and is badged as official statistics.
  • regional GVA, based on data from ONS and the Digital Sector annual GVA publication. This release provides annual estimates of GVA by the UK regions and devolved administrations

For information on how these estimates are produced please see the relevant technical report included as part of each release.

In releases before April 2024, figures for the Digital Sector (and its subsectors, including Telecommunications) were produced by DCMS as part of their DCMS Sectors Economic Estimates series.

DSIT have recently concluded a consultation on the planned future of the Digital Sector Economic Estimates series - the DSIT response to this consultation can be accessed using this link.
