An overview of the HNIP funding scheme and how to apply.
The Heat Networks Investment Project (HNIP) is a government funding programme that aims to:
- increase the number of heat networks being built
- deliver carbon savings
- help create the conditions necessary for a sustainable heat network market to develop
HNIP will provide £320 million of capital funding to gap fund heat network projects in England and Wales.
The scheme is open to the public, private and third sectors.

Pilot scheme (2016 to 2017)
The HNIP pilot ran from October 2016 to March 2017. We have incorporated the lessons learned into the design of the main scheme.
