Primary care guidance: diagnosing and managing infections
Guidance on diagnosis of infections, using the microbiology laboratory, and appropriate use of antibiotics and antifungals in primary care.
GPs and other health professionals in primary care can use this series of quick reference guides for diagnosis of infectious disease including knowing when to use the microbiology laboratory and how to understand results. They also provide guidance on appropriate use of antibiotics and antifungals.
The templates have been produced in consultation with GPs and specialists in the field.
PHE discourages major changes to the guidance but the editable format allows minor changes to suit local service delivery and sampling protocols.
