Detail of outcome

The response document sets out government policy in light of the recent consultation on changes to the Patents Rules 2007. The consultation set out proposed changes to the Rules in relation to the expansion of the Patents Opinions Service and renewal fees on restored European patents (UK). The response document takes account of the responses received and confirms the government’s intention to take forward the proposed changes to secondary legislation as set out in the consultation document. These changes will therefore come into effect on 1 October 2014.

Consultation description

Among other things, the Intellectual Property Act 2014 allows for the expansion of our Patents Opinion Service and clarifies the need for the payment of renewal fees following restoration of a European patent (UK).

We are now seeking views on the implementation of these changes, including proposed amendments to the Patents Rules 2007.
