Detail of outcome
Between 21 March to 11 April 2016, we held a short informal consultation for those originally consulted, and those who responded to the initial consultation. The informal follow up was to provide the opportunity to comment on the proposal we had developed.
We received 13 responses to this informal consultation.
Defra will now take the proposal forward and seek approval to make the necessary rule changes.
If the changes are approved there will be a three-year transitional period from 2017 to 2020, agreed by Council members, during which Council’s numbers will be gradually reduced.

Original consultation
Consultation description
We want to know what you think about our proposals to change the constitution of the RCVS Council so it can operate more efficiently. The changes include proposals to increase lay and veterinary nurse membership, and reduce the overall size of Council.
This consultation will be of particular interest to the veterinary profession and animal owners.
