Consultation description
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) produces subnational population projections every two years. They provide an estimate of the future population size and age structure of local authorities in England and are used as a common framework for informing local planning. The 2014-based subnational population projections are planned for publication on 25 May 2016 and will provide indicative figures of the population from mid-2014 to mid-2039, based on the continuation of recent trends. The objective of this consultation is to improve our understanding of what you need from subnational population projections and related outputs. This will help us to plan for future projection releases which will inform decision making in England. Everyone is welcome to respond. We will also be running a series of events for local authorities and county councils where representatives will be able to see and comment on the provisional projections for their area.
How to respond
You are invited to provide feedback on what you need from subnational population projections so that we focus our resources appropriately. The issues that we are especially interested in are outlined in Section 3 of the consultation document. Information on how to respond can be found in Appendix B.
Local authority and county council representatives will be able to see and comment on the provisional figures for their area at one of the three consultation meetings that will be held in February 2016. Details of these meetings can be found in Section 2 of the consultation document. Information on how to attend a meeting can be found in Appendix A. The consultation will close on 26 February 2016. A response to the consultation will be published on the ONS website when the 2014-based subnational population projections are published on 25 May 2016. We do not intend to publish any individual consultations responses. If you have any queries, please email [email protected].
