Detail of outcome

This stakeholder briefing document for the Great Western rail franchise competition summarises the responses to the consultation that was carried out between November 2017 and February 2018 and provides the government’s response to it.

It also provides a description of what we propose to include in the specification for the franchise extension, and what this might mean for stakeholders during the course of this extension.

We’re asking for views on future services across the Great Western network. The consultation covers a range of issues for both the medium and longer term. Let us have your thoughts on:

  • how services can be improved
  • what a future franchisee should be expected to prioritise

We’re looking for views from:

  • passengers
  • communities
  • businesses
  • local authorities
  • other interested parties
