Outcome and response to the consultation on when to phase out the sale of new, non-zero emission HGVs.

We have launched a call for evidence on HGVs and HGV use cases that could justify being exempt from the 2035 phase-out date for the sale of new, non-zero emission HGVs 26 tonnes and under.

We are seeking views on:

  • when to end the sale of new non-zero emission heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) in the UK
  • whether to increase the maximum permissible weights for zero emission and alternatively fuelled HGVs completing domestic journeys

Non-zero emission HGVs are HGVs that produce harmful tailpipe emissions while driving.

The end of sale dates for new non-zero emission HGVs will be enforced through the green paper on a new road vehicle CO2 emissions regulatory framework for the United Kingdom.

Ending the sale of new non-zero emission HGVs is part of the Decarbonising transport: a better, greener Britain.
