A total of 10 responses were received. These were mostly from representative organisations of intellectual property (IP) experts and IP attorney firms.
This response summarises the main points raised by respondents on the proposed changes, including suggestions for improvements to the draft legislation. It includes the government’s response to these comments and, where appropriate, indications of how the draft legislation will be amended.

Consultation description
The Directive aims to support innovation and economic growth by making the trade mark legal framework across Europe more accessible and effective for business. It requires changes to UK trade mark law.
The government seeks views on how those changes should be made. The document includes the draft statutory instrument, and discussion of some issues of particular interest.
We welcome comments, including on the draft impact assessment.
