M3 junctions 3 to 4 air quality mitigation: 60 mph speed limit
Read the full outcome
Detail of outcome
Highways Agency previously consulted on proposals to limit speeds to 60mph between 7am and 7pm seven days a week because of the potential effect of the new scheme on local air quality.
This option will not be taken forward and instead Highways Agency is rigorously investigating alternatives while work progresses on the scheme in the next 12-18 months.
Original consultation
Consultation description
Proposals for implementing a maximum 60 mph speed limit operating from 7 am to 7 pm for approximately 3 miles between junctions 3 to 4 of the M3 motorway. This would tackle air quality issues due to higher levels of nitrogen dioxide pollution arising from the conversion of the hard shoulder into a running lane, particularly at peak times.
The consultation is aimed at affected stakeholder groups or individuals.
