Consultation description

The Marine Management Organisation (MMO) sets monthly catch limits for quota species to ensure the UK stays within the overall limit set by the EU. These limits apply to all under 10 meter vessels and the over 10 meter vessels that are not in a co-operative (Producer Organisation).

The Celtic Sea Cod quota has been cut by over 60% in 2020 and this means that the under 10m allocation will be approximately 8t for 2020 compared to landings of 13t in 2019. The MMO and DEFRA are examining options for gaining additional quota but these are extremely limited. As such it is proposed that the catch limit be reduced to 75kg for February and may have to be reduced further later in the year.

Please contact the MMO if you have any comment to make about the suggested catch limits which will be put into force on 1 March 2020.

Comments to be received no later than 09:00 on Wednesday 26 February 2020.
