People and households claiming Universal Credit, Personal Independence Payment and other benefits

In November 2010 the government announced plans to reform the welfare system by creating a new Universal Credit.
The new benefit will replace many of the current separate welfare benefits as well as subsuming in-work support currently administered through tax credits. Details can be found at the link above.
Other changes to the benefit system are taking place at around the same time, for example, the introduction of Personal Independence Payment and the Benefit Cap from 2013.
This document describes the proposed changes to some Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) Official Statistics over the period 2013 to 2017. This period covers the introduction of these new benefits and the migration of the existing stock of claimants.
The scope of this document includes most DWP statistics produced from administrative data, i.e. data produced by the computer systems which are used for the administration of the benefits. It excludes changes to DWP statistics produced from surveys (such as the Family Resources Survey); Fraud and Error statistics, as well as the Claimant Count produced by the Office for National Statistics. Changes to these statistics have or will be covered by separate consultations where necessary.
