On 20 April 2022, the government published a summary of responses received for its consultation on proposals to amend The Highway Code to create rules on the safe use of automated vehicles. This document also outlines the government’s response to the consultation.
Alongside this, the government published Automated vehicles: testing proposed wording used in The Highway Code and Self-driving vehicles listed for use in Great Britain.

Proposes amendments to The Highway Code to introduce a new section regarding rules for the safe use of automated vehicles on motorways.
This consultation was an outcome requirement of the August 2020 call for evidence on ensuring safe use of Automated Lane Keeping Systems.
