Consultation description
We are pleased to invite members of the public to have their say on our new draft Welsh Language Scheme.
UKCES is committed to treating the English and Welsh languages on a basis of equality in the conduct of public business in Wales. We recognise that individuals can express their views and needs better in their preferred language and that enabling them to use their preferred language is a matter of good practice rather than a concession. We understand that denying them of that right could place them at a real disadvantage. This scheme seeks to bring this principle to life, so far as it is both appropriate in the circumstances and reasonably practicable, when providing services to the public.
This scheme has been prepared in line with guidance from the Welsh Language Commissioner under the Welsh Language Act 1993. We hope that it will be formally approved by the Welsh Language Commissioner following this consultation process.
