WEEE compliance fee 2022: call for views
Detail of outcome
This call for views has now concluded. We received 24 responses from producers, Producer Compliance Schemes (PCSs), trade associations and local authorities.
There was strong support for a compliance fee across the industry. All respondents supported the adoption of a compliance fee. A total of 15 responses preferred the Joint Trade Association (JTA) proposal while 3 recommended Valpak’s proposal. 6 respondents declined to comment on their preferred methodology.
Ministers have now approved the proposal submitted by the JTA for the 2022 compliance year – and for it to be administered by Mazars.
Original consultation
Consultation description
We want to know if you think there should be a WEEE compliance fee set for 2022. We also want to know your thoughts on the 2 proposals we’ve received for how the fee should be managed in 2022.
If a company does not meet their annual WEEE collection targets, they can comply with the 2013 WEEE regulations by paying a ‘compliance fee’ instead. We agree on whether a compliance fee should be used and how it is administered annually, through calls for views.
