Brexit update by Ambassador Alison Rose
Ambassador Alison Rose was recently invited by the Brussels British Community Association to give an update to British Nationals about the Brexit negotiations.
Ambassador Alison Rose gave a presentation on the current state of the Brexit negotiations, focusing on the citizens’ rights agreement. The Ambassador outlined where the UK and the European Commission have come to an agreement about citizens’ rights, and also flagged areas which remain outstanding for the next phase of negotiation. Please see the links below for more concrete information about this.
Around 100 British Nationals attended the event in Brussels. They were able to ask questions and express concerns about their rights and status as residents in Belgium, including after the implementation period.
A message from Ambassador Alison Rose
I wish to thank everyone who came to this event. The Embassy team and I felt the concern in your questions and comments. We understand that many of you still face uncertainty for yours and your loved ones’ lives, whether this is about onward free movement, access to higher education or family reunification. We have fed these messages back to London.
As the negotiations continue, our plan is to hold more of these events throughout Belgium. We are organising two more events in Antwerp and Tervuren, for which you can find registration details here.
In the meantime, follow us on our Facebook and Twitter pages, where we regularly share updates about the negotiations or post information about the citizens’ rights deal.
