The British Embassy in Santo Domingo is a collaborative partner for the unique classical music competition for instrumentalists and vocalists.
The British Chamber of Commerce in Dominican Republic (BritchamDR), have announced the launch of the BritchamDR Young Musician of the Caribbean Award (YMoCA), a unique classical music competition for instrumentalists and vocalists between the ages of 12 and 26 from any of the Caribbean Islands.
The competition, sponsored by the Dominican British Chamber of Commerce, will provide an unprecedented opportunity to discover the wealth of musical talent amongst young people in the Caribbean and will serve as a platform for the rising musical stars of the future.
BritchamDR YMoCA represents a collaborative partnership between The British Embassy in Santo Domingo, The British Chamber of Commerce in Dominican Republic , the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) and London and Bangor University in Wales.
The two-round event requires each aspiring performer to register online and provide a brief video audition. Successful applicants from round one will perform before a distinguished panel of British musicians during the BritchamDR YMoCA Final Competition to be held in The National Concert Hall, Santo Domingo on Monday 1 July 2019.
Further particulars (including a detailed outline of the application process) are available on the BritchamDR YMoCA website. The bi-annual competition will be complemented by a series of practical performing workshops for instrumentalists and vocalists (entitled ‘Masterclass Series for Young Musicians’ from the Caribbean) during July 2020 which will provide further opportunities for training and developing music talent in the region.
