The letter, aimed at strengthening the relations between both sides, was signed by Ambassador Jonathan Knott and Mr Dariusz Grajda, Chairman of the Association.
A special letter of intent was signed on Friday, 9 November 2018, between the British Embassy Warsaw and the Polish Association of Local Government Carriers.
The letter follows a long-lasting cooperation between the embassy and the association’s members, eleven local railway carriers from across Poland. It aims at further strengthening the relations between both sides in many fields, including public procurement, passenger information, transport ticketing systems, safety and rolling stock. The text of the letter reads:
While acknowledging and appreciating the existing cooperation between the parties for the development of railway transport in the United Kingdom and Poland,
the Embassy of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Warsaw and the Polish Association of Local Government Railway Carriers hereby sign this Letter of Intent to strengthen the relations between the parties.
By signing this Letter of Intent, the partners express their willingness to cooperate in sharing British and Polish experience and best practices in the railway sector, to participate in joint meetings, conferences and study visits.
Upon signing the letter, Ambassador Knott praised the strong cooperation between the UK and Poland in the railway sector:
Today is an opportunity for us to celebrate the strong relationship between our two countries. This letter of intent shows that we are determined to help the railway sectors in our countries to cooperate even more closely.
Mr. Grajda said:
British railway is a good example to be followed. We wish to increase our cooperation and our exchange of expertise. Let us look for common grounds so we can build a better future.
On 4-6 December 2018, representatives of Polish railway companies and associations will participate in a study visit to learn about integrated ticketing systems and passenger information in the UK.
