Caribbean Prosperity Fund

British High Commissions in Port-of-Spain, Bridgetown, Kingston, Georgetown and Belmopan would like to invite concept bids for the Caribbean Prosperity Fund.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government
Caribbean Prosperity Fund

What areas are we focusing on?

The Prosperity Fund supports projects that promote sustainable global growth, focussing on the following areas:

  • Improvements in the trading and investment environment and reforms that will create an open and level playing field for business to thrive in the Caribbean. [More details below]
  • Responses to the challenges of climate change and moves toward a low carbon economy [More details below]

What criteria are we using to select projects?

We try to support projects that can really add value and impact. Projects should aim to cover an existing gap in the system and promote practical change. We are especially interested in projects that utilise UK experience and expertise to promote stronger UK-Caribbean relations.

As a result, our selection criteria will give particular preference to proposals that demonstrate how they add value to existing government or multilateral initiatives, take a multi-country or regional approach, build on UK experience or expertise, and include the relevant stakeholders and partners to ensure the outcomes of the project can be carried forward.

In the 2013/14 round of funding we are seeking 3-6 month projects that will complete by February 2014. If you have a project with a longer timescale please still contact us, although we are unable to commit funding for projects that start after February 2014 at this time.

Projects must have activity in or involving individuals / institutions from at least one of the following countries: Antigua & Barbuda, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname or Trinidad & Tobago

What should you do next?

If you wish to apply for funding from us please complete the short concept bid form and send it to: [email protected] by 16 August 2013.

Please note we are keen to provide funding for projects with a budget of up to £30,000, with smaller projects welcome. Projects above this limit are not ruled out, but are less likely to receive funding.

Please ensure that all required sections of the form are properly completed as incomplete proposal forms will be rejected. In particular, please ensure that you complete the cost and funding sections.

What will happen once I have submitted my bid?

We will review your concept bid form, and if you are successful you will be invited to complete a full proposal form, setting out implementation, financing, and evaluation aspects in more detail. Project implementers will be required to submit quarterly project and financial reports during the implementation of the project and a final report on project completion.

More on the project themes

Support business environment improvements and reforms that will facilitate an open and level playing field for businesses to thrive in the Caribbean.

Under this theme we would like to see projects which:

  • promote improved regulation and transparency in priority areas of the economy

  • support the region’s openness to trade and investment and strengthen the multilateral trading systems

Support responses to climate change and moves toward a low carbon economy

Under this theme we would like to see projects which:

  • support evidence-based policy development by providing intelligence and inputs on the most efficient and effective mechanisms the Caribbean could adopt to move towards a low carbon economy
  • support businesses, NGOs and civil society to demonstrate approaches to address the challenges of climate change adaptation and mitigation in a way that generates long term employment and/or other social benefits
  • develop and showcase technological or process innovations which could address serious environmental challenges in the Caribbean through energy, water and resource efficiency.
