Mr Jonathan Sinclair has been appointed British High Commissioner to New Zealand and Governor of the Pitcairn, Henderson, Ducie and Oeno Islands in succession to Mrs Victoria Treadell, who will be transferring to another Diplomatic Service appointment. Mr Sinclair will take up his appointment during August 2014.

Mr Sinclair joined the FCO in 1996 after completing a Masters in International Relations and short stints in media and tourism. He has previously served in India and the USA and, in London, has done a wide range of roles where foreign and domestic policies and politics intersect, including on Europe, national security, and trade and investment.

On his appointment as British High Commissioner to New Zealand and Governor of the Pitcairn, Henderson, Ducie and Oeno Islands, Mr Sinclair has said:

I am honoured and delighted to be appointed as High Commissioner. The UK and New Zealand are old friends and very close partners, whose shared values and history underpin a vibrant modern relationship. It is a great privilege to work with New Zealand on our shared objectives of greater security and prosperity. I look forward to strengthening warm and long-standing partnerships and to discovering together new opportunities for both our countries.

I am also honoured and delighted to be taking up the role of Governor. The Pitcairn Islands offer their own great opportunities and I look forward to working with all the people there to help fulfil them.
