Communities ministers wish the Jewish community a happy Chanukah 2014
The Secretary of State and Minister for Faith Eric Pickles and Communities Ministers send messages of good wishes for the Jewish holiday.
Communities Secretary and Minister for Faith Eric Pickles said:
I would like to send my warmest wishes to everyone celebrating Chanukah.
Chanukah has become one of the best-loved celebrations in the British calendar, and reminds us all of the enormous contribution that the Jewish community makes in British life.
Tonight as families and friends come together to light the menorah in communities across the country, I hope that the goodwill of the season inspires all of us to have a very happy and peaceful Chanukah.
Communities Minister Stephen Williams said:
I’d like to wish the Jewish community in the UK and beyond a very happy Chanukah.
The festival reminds people that hope and endurance can last us through the most trying of times – a valuable lesson that everyone, regardless of faith or background, can learn from.
Jewish people make a tremendous contribution to British life and by learning, understanding and sharing in the wide array of different cultures, all of which are integral to the fabric of our great country, Britain can only become stronger.
Lord Tariq Ahmad said:
Chanukah is a time for family and friends to come together, celebrate and share quality time with one another. This festival of light also provides hope at times of darkness, to come together to pray for a brighter future for all of humanity.
The Jewish community, indeed all faiths, make a significant contribution to society. It is by recognising each and every different festival, the strengthening of mutual respect, the strength and diversity of our nation shines through.
To Jewish people right across Britain, Chag Sameach.
