The Strategic Impact Evaluation Fund has just launched its first call for proposals with a deadline of 4th June.

The SIEF is a £25mn DFID fund to the World Bank to support rigorous impact evaluations in human development. It will finance research evaluating the impact of programs designed to alleviate poverty and improve people’s lives. The knowledge generated will provide evidence for designing more effective policies and programs for improving human development outcomes, with a particular focus on programmes that can be expanded in low-income countries.

The call focuses on the following thematic clusters: early childhood nutrition, health and development; water and sanitation linked to human development outcomes; basic education service delivery; and health systems and service delivery.

The SIEF will provide seed funding to develop a full proposal as well as technical expertise to design the impact evaluations. The SIEF is open to researchers everywhere, including DFID, World Bank, partners in international organisations, NGOs and governments. All evaluations must have a World Bank sponsor and researchers and organizations are encouraged to partner with World Bank staff to submit a proposal.

The SIEF will be holding its first impact evaluation workshop in Addis 21-25 May 2012. This is a great opportunity for staff working on human development programmes to learn about impact evaluations and develop an impact evaluation design for your programme under the guidance of leading impact evaluation experts.

Proposals for funding must be submitted via email to [email protected] by 08:00 (EST) on June 4, 2012. Application materials are available from the SIEF website.
