The Senior Traffic Commissioner for Great Britain, Beverley Bell, is today (7 April 2014) publishing a further consultation on her proposed statutory guidance and statutory directions for local bus services.

The document, which has been reviewed after initial consultation last year, sets out what traffic commissioners should expect from operators who run registered bus routes and the standards for reliable and punctual services.

The revised publication takes account of the many responses to the first consultation, including from local authorities, operators, passenger groups, trade associations and individuals.

Commenting on the first consultation, Mrs Bell said:

The document provoked a significant response from the industry and those with an interest in the reliable and punctual operation of local bus services. I am extremely grateful to everyone who responded and offered their considered thoughts about, and experience in, public transport.

She added:

This critical assessment has given me an opportunity to assess the guidance and directions again and revise the document within the context of the responses received. There will now be a shorter period of consultation on the revised draft.

I would encourage all parties to respond and look forward to issuing the new guidance to the industry once the further consultation has ended and the feedback has been considered and assessed.

The consultation will close on 19 May 2014.

Consultation responses should be directed to: [email protected].
