Job opportunity in Montevideo: Trade and Prosperity Internship
We are looking for a part-time Trade and Prosperity intern
The British Embassy in Montevideo is seeking a university student or recent graduate to participate in its internship programme. The successful candidate can expect to gain experience of collaboration and working in teams, written and verbal communication, event planning and project management, and gain expertise in international government and Multilateral relations.
We are looking for a capable researcher, a competent multi-tasker, a proactive team player, with strong writing skills
The intern will assist the Trade & Prosperity Team in the Embassy to help Uruguay boost its’ economic potential by opening markets, encouraging transparency and promoting sustainable growth, whilst supporting UK companies to do business in the country.
Roles and Responsibilities:
The Trade and Prosperity Intern duties include a diverse number of responsibilities, including but not limited to, the following:
- To develop documents, databases and report related business opportunities in order to increase bilateral trade of products and services.
- Respond to requests of information from UK businesses.
- Generate contact lists (media, stakeholders, businesses, etc.)
- Support a range of Embassy events and provide logistical support to initiatives.
- Research and write reports and factsheets on commercial and economic issues.
- Gather and analyse bilateral trade data.
- Support the Embassy’s efforts to market the UK in Uruguay and to raise the commercial and trade profile using the embassy website and social media channels.
- Produce and regularly update sector reports in areas where there are business opportunities for UK companies.
- Provide advice on market opportunities for UK companies interested in Uruguay.
- Provide assistance in Project Planning and Project Management.
- Administer Embassy Trade and Prosperity email account.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience:

Currently studying last year of university degree or graduated no more than 2 years ago in International Relations, International Trade, Economy, or a relevant subject to the vacancy.

Fluent in both written and spoken English and Spanish;

Good IT skills: MS Office package especially Excel: strong online research skills;

Strong interpersonal skills to facilitate relationship building both internally and externally;

Ability to manage own work with minimal supervision and work effectively under tight deadlines;

Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and strong on follow-up;

Strong self-motivation;

Should be a proactive and creative self-starter with the ability to learn quickly.

Customer focussed and good team player.
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience:

Have experience in trade promotion, business, economic affairs, or similar.

Have an understanding of the Uruguayan economy, including its business practices, investment market, laws, regulations and policies.

- Intern working hours are: 4 hours a day from Monday – Friday (morning or afternoon.)
- Stipend: $ 7,500 (Pesos)
- Start Date: 23 April 2019
- Duration: 3 month internship with possibility of renewal for up to 1 year (not permanent contract.)

Expenses: The internships receive stipend to cover travel and lunch costs.

Selected candidate will be offered the position subject to receiving a security clearance. The candidate will be required to provide a current “Certificado de Buena Conducta” as part of this process.

This internship is recognised as a Work Experience (Práctica Laboral) for the “Universidad de la República” International Relations career applicants under the following conditions:
- The Embassy will ensure the internship covers 300 hours in total.
- University Students Office (Bedelía) must certify that the applicant has 3rd year of the career fully approved before start date and the necessary requirements to obtain the intermediate degree.
