In this free seminar Stephen and James discussed the overall purpose of evaluation and measuring impact and looked at perspectives and challenges around different approaches.

They also examined the merits and limitations of counterfactual designs and Randomised Controlled Trials (RCTs) and looked at what the Justice Data Lab offers and what has been learned so far. Stephen and James then explored which evaluation approaches are appropriate given resource constraints, the stages of programme maturity and what different types of data / information can tell us. Finally they considered how commissioners and funders could think about impact measurement to help improve services.
