PM meeting with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko: 8 July
David Cameron met with the Ukrainian President at the NATO Summit in Warsaw where he reaffirmed the UK's commitment to Ukraine's sovereignty.
Following the meeting a Downing St spokesperson said:
The Prime Minister held a bilateral meeting with the Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko in the margins of the NATO Summit in Warsaw yesterday.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed the UK’s firm commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and stressed the importance of Ukraine and Russia fully implementing the Minsk Agreement as quickly as possible.
President Poroshenko thanked the Prime Minister for the UK’s support for Ukraine including the training thousands of Ukrainian soldiers, which would be continued into 2017 through a new UK commitment to train a further thousand troops by the end of March.
They discussed the importance of Ukraine continuing to make progress on judicial reform and anti-corruption. The Prime Minister confirmed we would more than double our technical assistance programme to Ukraine through the Good Governance Fund this year to £12 million, with an overall commitment of £60 million over 5 years.
