Policing and Criminal Justice Minister visits West Yorkshire Police

Policing and Criminal Justice Minister Nick Herbert visited West Yorkshire to hear about the work of local police to tackle crime.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

And he saw first hand how neighbourhood police officers in the Chapeltown area of Leeds have been able to engage with members of the community they previously found hard to reach thanks to the pioneering work of the Chapeltown Youth Development Centre. Led by chairman Lutel James, the centre works with hundreds of local young people and plays an active part in diverting them away from crime.

The Minister also met with Chief Constable Sir Norman Bettison, the West Yorkshire Police Authority and the Leeds Drugs and Offender Management Unit.
