About us
We're responsible for UK energy security, protecting billpayers and reaching net zero.
The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) leads on the government’s mission to make the UK a clean energy superpower.
Our responsibilities
We are responsible for
- UK energy security
- protecting billpayers
- supporting economic growth for the UK and protecting jobs
- reducing the UK’s emissions
Our priorities
Our priorities are:
- Leading the government mission to achieve clean power by 2030 and accelerate to net zero: this will boost energy independence, protect billpayers, create growth and jobs and reduce carbon emissions
- British jobs and supply chains and a successful Great British Energy: create an active industrial strategy which supports clean energy industries and the transition to net zero, establish Great British Energy - creating good jobs and building domestic supply chains across the country
- Warm Homes Plan: Advance home decarbonisation this parliament to cut people’s bills, decarbonise the buildings sector, and cut fuel poverty
- A fairer deal for consumers: lowering bills and spreading costs more progressively. We will strengthen Ofgem to ensure consumer interests come first, and it can hold companies to account for wrongdoing
- Establishing a just and orderly transition away from fossil fuels: a fair and prosperous transition in the North Sea - consistent with our position on no new oil and gas licences and our commitment to accelerating the deployment of offshore wind, CCUS and hydrogen
- Leading the fight against climate change and supporting global action: demonstrate success in the path to net zero at home and take a leadership role in the fight against climate change
