About us
The Government Property Function operates across departments, delivery organisations and agencies. It is a network of over 5,000 members with responsibility for a range of property-related activities.
The Government Property Function (GPF) manages a variety of complex estate portfolios and transformation programmes to support the efficiency and reform of public services.
The Office of Government Property, based in the Cabinet Office, provides leadership across the whole property function and wider public sector, to drive collaboration and transformation of the public estate for public benefit. They are the sponsor body for the Government Property Agency.
What we do
We use buildings every day of our lives. We live, work, learn and play in them. We deliver public services from them to the whole of society. Government property is integral to the UK’s infrastructure, the quality of our public services and a carbon neutral future.
Our aim is simple: to make property better.
We aim to improve capability and to allow government priorities in property to be delivered as effectively as possible. In practical terms, this may mean running the government estate in increasingly sustainable ways, building new public service infrastructure from prisons to schools, continuously improving the quality of the workplace and managing the whole life cycle of buildings in a more efficient way. It means delivering more-informed policy making, and better outcomes for the public in a whole range of areas where property impacts their lives.
Who we are
The GPF is one of the Civil Service Functions. It is made up of property professionals and supported by colleagues from a variety of disciplines.
Over 5,000 work in the central government property function, with many more working across the wider public sector, managing an estate valued at around £496 billion.
