Equality and diversity

National Offender Management Service’s equality and diversity policies and how equality and diversity are monitored.

Equality objectives

The National Offender Management Service (NOMS) is committed to treating all people fairly. We treat our staff with respect and offer equal opportunities to everyone we work with. We insist on respectful and polite behaviour from staff, offenders and others who we work with. We recognise that discrimination, harassment and bullying can still happen and we take quick and appropriate action whenever we find them.

More information on our equality objectives is available at the Ministry for Justice and in our current business plan.

Equality annual reports and reviews

We publish an equality report each year, describing the work we have done to meet our equalities objectives. This report is also our way of meeting with the specific requirements in the Equality Act 2010.

Race equality

HM Prison Service undertook a large programme of work on race issues following the murder of Zahid Mubarek at HMYOI Feltham, and the Commission for Racial Equality investigation that followed. This phase of work ended with the publication of the Race Review report in December 2008.
