Dr Raj Patel
Biography
Dr Raj Patel was the Interim Medical Director of Primary Care for NHS England and NHS Improvement before joining the DDRB. He was previously Medical Director of NHS England for Lancashire and Greater Manchester as well as Director of Commissioning for Lancashire.
A Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners, Raj was a GP in Greater Manchester for thirty years and has held senior clinical leadership positions in the NHS, locally, regionally and nationally since 1997 as well as a GP advisor role at the Department of Health. He is a graduate of Manchester University Medical School and sat on the General Assembly of the university. Raj was awarded an MBE in The Queen’s Birthday honours list 2019 for services to healthcare.

The Member of the Review Body on Doctors’ and Dentists’ Remuneration is independent. Its role is to make recommendations to the Prime Minister, the Secretary of State for Health, the First Minister and the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing of the Scottish Parliament, the First Minister and the Minister for Health and Social Services in the Welsh Assembly Government and the First Minister, Deputy First Minister and Minister for Health, Social Services and Public Safety of the Northern Ireland Executive on the remuneration of doctors and dentists taking any part in the National Health Service.
