Details

The government set out the need for greater transparency across its operations to enable the public to hold public bodies and politicians to account. This includes a commitment relating to public expenditure, intended to help achieve better value for money.

In April 2010, as part of this transparency agenda, the Department for Education and our current and former Arm’s Length Bodies (ALBs) began to publish spend over £25,000. From October 2011 the Standards and Testing Agency (STA) was formed and from April 2012 most ALBs were closed and 3 further executive agencies (EAs) were created:

  • the Education Funding Agency (EFA)
  • the Teaching Agency (TA)
  • the National College (NC)

Information regarding former ALBs is available on the National Archives website.

We aim to publish the data for the previous month by the last working day of the current month.

You can also search for the Department for Education’s, EA’s and our ALB’s data on Data.gov.uk where you will find further information about the government’s transparency initiative.
