2017 is the 50th anniversary of the first national housing survey, the National House Condition Survey conducted in England and Wales in 1967.

This report compares 1967 and 2017 in terms of housing policy, housing and the methodology used in the national housing survey. It has been produced to mark the 50th anniversary of large-scale housing surveys in England.

National House Condition Survey 1967

This report summarises the background, methodology and findings of the first national house condition survey, conducted in England and Wales in 1967. The report was originally published in 1968.

The Department for Communities and Local Government is reissuing this report alongside the new report ’50 Years of the English Housing Survey’, to mark the 50th anniversary of large-scale housing surveys in England.

The survey data can be downloaded from the UK Data Service in a range of formats.
