This document describes the specific conditions and level of authority required to access DNA samples taken from arrested individuals and profiles stored on the National DNA Database under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984.

The document also specifies the permissible purposes for which DNA may be used once accessed. It is issued by the Home Office on behalf of the National DNA Database Strategy Board. The shaded areas show changes from the previous version.
