Guidance to help local authorities and delivery partners to understand Active Travel England’s design assurance service.

Active Travel England (ATE) offers design assurance for any government-funded active travel or cross-modal scheme.

The aim is to ensure that schemes follow best practice guidance and are high quality, safe and accessible.

The design assurance service take two forms - design surgeries and design reviews. A scheme may go through one or both.

This guidance explains more about the two routes, including information about:
