These reports support the carbon analysis in the consultation on the Airport Commission’s shortlisted options for additional airport capacity.

The ‘Baseline’ report looks at forecast baseline carbon emissions for Heathrow and Gatwick airports on a ‘do minimum’ no expansion basis, over 60 years.

The ‘Assessment’ report examines carbon emissions associated with schemes, across a 60 year period, in terms of:

  • aircraft
  • passenger surface access
  • airport operations (energy and fuel use)
  • construction activity
