These reports support the operational efficiency analysis in the consultation on the Airport Commission’s shortlisted options for additional airport capacity.

NATS’ ‘Airspace efficiency report’ assesses the ability of the UK’s airspace systems to accommodate the forecast traffic growth associated with each scheme.

The 3 reports from LeighFisher consultants look at the levels of additional capacity provided by each of the shortlisted proposals, taking into account their:

  • runway
  • taxiway
  • stand
  • terminal

infrastructure. The reports also assess the relationship between terminal space and forecast passengers to produce a metric of passenger experience.

The ‘Preliminary safety review’ from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) examines likely safety issues associated with each scheme.
