Local authority commissioners of alcohol and drug services can use this guidance to create or review quality governance structures.

These structures:

  • drive quality up and improve service effectiveness
  • ensure the safety of service users
  • make services cost-effective

It describes the current systems of quality assurance and governance, and shows activities to take when creating or reviewing existing structures.

The guidance is split into the framework for effective quality governance, and the processes in place to ensure quality standards and constant improvement.
