Details

Large scale fires involving asbestos containing materials are a relatively common occurrence in the UK and can cause significant public concern. The potential public health consequences of such incidents have been explored.

Considering the available information on asbestos exposure levels in the context of the epidemiological evidence, from both occupational and environmental exposure studies, it is clear that, if appropriate clean-up procedures are followed, there is no significant public health risk resulting from asbestos exposures from large scale fires.
