This report uses the National Travel Survey to explore how socioeconomic and demographic characteristics affect individual’s decisions:

  • to hold a driving licence
  • to own or share a car
  • on how far to drive

The aim of this Transport Appraisal and Strategic Modelling (TASM) division report is to contribute to the existing evidence base on car travel, and inform DfT’s future analysis.
