Total funding for this competition is £500,000.

Summary

This CDE themed competition seeks an innovative way to detect toxic chemicals in vapour and/or aerosol form. In particular, capability in one or more of the following areas is required:

  • high selectivity, ideally providing molecular classification or identification
  • high sensitivity
  • the potential to detect a broad range of threat materials on a platform that is easily and rapidly programmable

Detection methods that will be deployed in the immediate vicinity of a hazard will be considered as will those at stand-off distances.

The Ministry of Defence has a longer-term aspiration that the following criteria will be met: fast response, low size, low weight, low consumable burden, wide dynamic range and low false-alarm rates. Proposals should describe how these aspects will be addressed in future stages of development.
