Each chemical incident is unique and requires a site-specific assessment.
The chemical recovery decision support tool (CRNT) works with current advice and guidance for the remediation of a chemical incident. It can assist staff in developing a recovery strategy.
The C&R RNT will:
- help users identify, develop and evaluate a recovery strategy following a chemical or radiation incident
- help users identify most appropriate, applicable and effective recovery options
- provide a consistent methodology for consistent clear decision making
- provide a template for recording information on incidents and evaluating recovery options (chemical remidiation record form, or CRRF)
- provide an auditable decision trail (CRRF)
The templates make decision-making and record-keeping easier, while staff concentrate on a recovery strategy.
PHE are developing the CRNT working closely with:
- Department for Environment Food & Rural Affairs (Defra)
- Department for Transport (DfT)
- Food Standards Agency (FSA)
- Government Decontamination Service (GDS)
- Chartered Institute for Environmental Health (CEIH)
- local authorities
- emergency services
- other stakeholders involved with recovery and restoration of the environment following a chemical incident
