Details

Protection allowance for officers engaged on core protection duties.

With effect from 1 December 2020, a member of the rank of constable, sergeant, inspector or chief inspector shall, when engaged on core protection duties, be entitled to claim a protection allowance where the relevant conditions are met.

The allowance features three rates, dependent on the circumstances of the deployment. It supersedes any previous allowances agreed by the Home Office or Metropolitan Police Service. Officers are advised to refer to the detailed policy provided and owned by the Metropolitan Police Service for further information.

Time-limited and targeted payments for hard to fill and demanding superintending roles.

Annex U provides flexibility for chief constables to make discretionary payments of up to £4,000 a year for officers in hard to fill roles in the federated ranks, and demanding roles in the superintending ranks. This flexibility was due to cease on 30 September but has now been extended to 5 April 2021.
