This rapid review identified and summarised the available evidence on the available evidence on the diagnostic accuracy of new tests to diagnose Clostridioides (C.) difficile, in comparison to the existing tests recommended by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) guidance published in 2012.

This rapid review searched for research published up to 2 January 2024 and included 9 studies.

Two studies compared the diagnostic accuracy of new tests to the DHSC recommended testing method, and 7 studies compared the diagnostic accuracy of different combinations of tests for C. difficile.
